This was disclosed by the Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, who says the former President’s order reinforces the NPP’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

“We [the NPP] have no record of running away; we’ll be here,” Ahiagbah said on Accra-based JoyNews Wednesday, February 19, 2025.

“There’s an effective commitment right from the former President himself. He has given a directive to ensure that our people are available to do that. I just don’t want to go into the details of what he said, but there is that disposition from the former President—an indication to stay and make sure that you account for [your stewardship]” he further disclosed.

The comments come on the back of recent concerns for availability of former government officials to submit themselves for accountability of their stewardship.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor for instance, declared former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta wanted and a fugitive from justice for his unavailability to the Office for probe.

However, recent engagement between the Office and the former minister’s outfit has brought a resolution leading to the OSP’s expunction of Ofori-Atta’s name from its wanted list.

But according to Ahiagbah, the NPP has not been a party whose members shield away from accountability unlike the NDC.

“We’ll deal with the issues here. It was the NDC members who ran away. My own sister, Sedinam Tamakloe, disappeared. She was tried in absentia, but she ought to be here. Our party has no history of our officials fleeing from accountability,” he stated.

He explained further that it is their party’s priority to prepare stronger for the 2028 polls, making the calls for accountability vital in coming back for the next election as a formidable force.

“Our preoccupation is how we get our party situated and contest the 2028 election. Matters to do with accountability—our people will be here to answer the questions,” he assured.

He was also confident that with time, Ghanaians will appreciate the achievements of the NPP administration for its eight-year stewardship in the country.

“We came to do the best we can. And I believe that when the dust settles, Ghana will see what we have done for the eight years,” he said.
