You can’t reset Ghana by repeating the ills of the past – Bawumia advises Mahama
Dr Bawumia

President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to reset Ghana will hit a snag if recent developments characterising his administration are not addressed, former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has advised.

Bawumia says the promise of change, campaigned by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), was meant to do away with all the ills characterising the nation. However, Dr. Bawumia avers those mishaps are rather being emboldened by the current administration, something he says lacks the ability to help the government reset the country as envisaged.

His comments come on the back of the government’s decision to nullify all appointments made by the immediate past administration after the December 07, 2024 elections.

Bawumia, who was expressing his concern over the development in a Facebook post Wednesday, February 19, 2025, indicated that those employed by the previous administration are equally Ghanaians who deserve to work.

He also cited the incidents of attacks on public institutions after the elections, as well as attacks on journalists in the country, amid the invasion of homes of former government appointees by state security agencies.

Dr. Bawumia in his post is calling on President Mahama to take a re-look at the directive for the dismissals and also put in measures to protect all citizens irrespective of their political backgrounds to reflect the essence of democratic governance.

He counseled that the dream to reset the nation will not suffice if the condemnable things done in the past are entertained.

“Ghanaians understood the promise of change to mean discarding the ills associated with the governance of our nation since 1992 and also an opportunity to show the way for future governments.

“There is no reset by repeating or escalating what may have happened in the past,” he stated in portions of his post.

“Therefore, I call on His Excellency President Mahama to be a president for all Ghanaians by putting a stop to these developments, reversing the unfair dismissals, and protecting all our citizens,” he urged.
